I've Saved $900 This Year At CVS!!!

I went to CVS last night and after I left, I looked at my receipt.

Year to Date Savings: $888.84

Spring 2008 Spending: $44.40 (which is pretty close to what my winter spending was too!)

I would like to give a formal thanks to Crystal over at Money Saving Mom for her dedication to helping us "newbies" learn how to play the CVS game.

But let's look at this more closely for just a second. Let's say I've spent a total of $100 so far this year at CVS (which is pretty accurate). That amount includes AT LEAST a dozen packages of diapers. Well, for a dozen packages of diapers, that sounds pretty average - a little over $8/package. But that also includes HUNDREDS of other products - razors, razor cartridges, shampoos, conditioners, toothbrushes, toothpastes, body washes, soaps, lotions, pain meds, diabetes meters, candy, MILK, cleaning products....the list goes on and on.

In addition to all the stuff I have used (namely diapers), I have been able to give away huge lots of personal hygiene items and look at what I have left (and this is not all of it):

Many people ask me, "Why would you buy all that stuff if you don't need it?"

Well, that's easy! "To give it away!"

Since you can actually MAKE money on many items at CVS and can get SO many items for free, why not buy them for someone who could use them?

"But it takes so much time....is it really worth it?"

Well, you tell me! :)

So now I'm curious. For all of you who play "the CVS game", how much have you spent and how much have you saved this year??

Wow thats great! The last time I looked I had saved a little over $300 and spent $30 something. Not too shabby for a newbee. Thanks for all your help! BTW - anyone know anything about the Walgreen Zantac deal? I've read if you use $5 coupon with their $4.99 Zantac you get $3 RR back. It didnt work for me this morning (the RR that is) but I think I bought the wrong kind. Oh well - thanks again!

KIMMY: I'm not sure on the Walgreens thing. I read that too, but I don't do much shopping at Walgreens. Anyone else know?

A cashier at my Walgreens told me that the rr's won't print with coupons anymore. Idnk if its a new rule from corporate but that's the info I got. If it is correct, I think walgreens became less of a deal:(

I am so thankful to all of you wonderful women and your constant postings and deal ideas. It's great to stockpile and donate to local food banks/service centers so yes, it's worth it to me.

You rock sister! Okay, is it morally and ethically okay to have more than one CVS card? I was just wondering your take because so many people seem to do that? Do you know the CVS policy?

EXTRAORDINARY ORDINARY LIFE:

The CVS policy is one card per household. It used to be one per person, but it has been changed somewhat recently to one per household. I believe the ads state that and it may be on the actual card registration too? Not sure. I looked on the internet and could not find it, but like I said, the ads usually say "Limit 1 per household" and not "Limit 1 per card". I will let you know if I can find it anywhere online.

That being said, I do not use nor do I endorse using more than 1 Extra Care card per household. Per your question, yes, I do think it is unethical.

Year to Date Spending: $60.25

I was thinking that was pretty good until I read your blog ;)

I totally agree that CVS is worth it. I blog about it alot of my blog.

I only have one card and my YTD savings number is over 2,000 dollars. I've donated to the troops, a women's shelter, give extra's to family and friends. Plus I get all of the baby stuff cheap.

It's an awesome hobby - it saves you money, you can help people. It does take a little time, but it's so worth it.
