WFMW! Little Buckets and Closet Sleepers

Dear Internet, I would like to preface this post by telling you that I am NOT an abusive mother; I simply like to utilize space as best I can. :)

Now, having said that, let me show you my youngest child's bedroom:

Yes, that's right, ladies and gentlemen. My daughter's room is actually a closet. But a closet with a window, which I'm pretty sure technically makes it a room....right?! (Yes, that is a blanket being used as a curtain.)

And seriously....who needs a closet that big?? I know it sounds funny when I say my daughter sleeps in a closet, but now at least all of you know how spacious her closet really is. :)

In case you're wondering why she sleeps in a closet, let me explain. Our children are 3, 2, and 1. When one of them wakes up, they ALL wake up. And considering there is at least one child awake every morning around 6....well....three children being up at that time is just not conducive to my life or their sleep schedule. Apparently the door being cracked is closed enough that she does not hear the commotion of them getting out of bed. So hence, the closet.

In fact, all three of our children have, at one time in their life, slept in a closet. All of our closets are ridiculously big and we just don't need all that closet space. Our oldest slept in our master closet when he was an infant. Our middle child slept in what is now the toy room closet. And now this one, our youngest, sleeps here. :) We have exhausted all three of our closets now, so if we have another child, they won't be able to experience their own closet. Although now that I think about it, maybe they'll be happy about that.....

Anyway, on to the baskets. We only have two dressers for the kids. The girls had been sharing one, but it was getting pretty stuffed. So I decided to "basket" Reagan's clothes in her room and it's working out just fine! (After all, baby clothes don't take up all that much space). I got these baskets at the Dollar Tree for - you guessed it - $1 each. A pretty cheap "dresser", if you ask me!

I also store a few things (diapers, wipes, etc.) under her changing table.

Now will someone else PLEASE tell me they have slept their child(ren) in an abnormal place?? :)

I have a friend whose first little boy slept in a crib that was placed in a hallway of their apartment, and their second little boy's crib was placed in a large closet in their house- and neither child had a window! Both kids turned out just fine! :)

Hmmm...can't say my children have slept anywhere too strange. Yet. :)

I'm jealous about your closets though! I need more closet space in this house.

I second the comment about being jealous of your closets - all but one of ours are so tiny they're barely useful.

We have one walk-in closet - it has been, at different times: an office, a craft room, and now a community closet for the kids. It's never been a bedroom, but a crib would have fit nicely there (couldn't do it though because there's no heat to that space - it's frigid in the winter!).

We fully finished our walk-up attic a few years ago to make it into a bedroom for two of our boys. When ds6 was in pre-school, his teacher sent home a note that said, "___ says he sleeps in the attic???" Have to wonder what image she had of that - him sleeping among boxes in the rafters? They have the best bedroom in the house, but we do get strange looks from people once in a while when they hear the boys say they're going to play in the attic or that they sleep there. :-)

Your little one's bedroom looks very nicely done - what more does a baby need?

Pallet on the closet floor of an RV...granted it was just for a vacation but have you ever seen how small an RV can be, and try to fit a pack n play in there somewhere - SHEESH!

I've been trying to figure out what WFMW all day. I asked Jon, but he didn't know. I tried to think of possibilities, but none of them made sense. He suggested I google it. I tried, with no luck. I was just about to ask you, but when I got back on here to type my question, I saw "Works for me Wednesday" on a link. AT LAST! Now I will be able to sleep tonight.

Derin as a college student was sleeping in a closet when we met. His parents had converted their bi-level home downstairs into their master bedroom with large closet and bathroom, but eventually the "bedroom" was converted back to a living room and he slept in the "closet." Just big enough for his bed and dresser with his hanging clothes hanging above his feet :)
Of course when he moved out his younger sister was given the entire downstairs and it was once again a closet :)

please don't tell michael your children slept in closets. he wanted to put luke's crib in his closet, but it really wasn't quite big enough. i'll never hear the end of it if he finds out . . .

i slept in a dresser drawer as an infant when my parents traveled. we did the same with luke last christmas.

I used to sleep in the closet in my room when I was 7-9. I had half a walk-in (mom used the other half for Christmas stuff) and it was fun to "camp" in there.
