Anyway.....on to the good stuff....
A while back, Gretchen posted on her other blog that she was going to make some of these aprons for Christmas presents this year. Now, I cannot personally wear an apron. It makes me feel old and like I belong in the 1950s. BUT I did fall in love with this particular apron. I could not stop looking at the adorableness of the pattern and decided that I must make one...whether I would wear it or not.
Then I started thinking, I have a friend who wears an apron often. She also just happens to have 3 young'ns in her home - a 3 year-old and 1 1/2 year-old twins - ALL GIRLS. It sounded like the perfect project to me, so I hit up Gretchen for her sewing expertise (I assure you she's laughing right now) and she helped me out with my plan.
Last night, I delivered the aprons to my friend. It was great. I don't think I've ever seen her cry (and I still haven't), but she did say, "I might cry", which is pretty darn close! No, it's not that I really desire to see her cry, but it was just a happy moment for me that she was pleased with my handiwork. I admit - I'm totally proud of these. But not TOO proud, because I could not have done these without Gretchen's help!

Can you tell how totally proud I am of my work? Did I mention that I haven't touched a sewing machine in about 10 years?
On an entirely separate note, it's my birthday today and I'm really excited. :)
Are you making any of your Christmas presents this year? All of them? Some of them? If so, what are you making? And does anyone have any ideas for a MALE hand-made Christmas present??

Happy birthday Heidi! The aprons look great. I'm making several gifts this year for family members. I'm giving the gift of time by making things instead of store bought gifts. I'm making a tutu for my niece (it turned out great!), ornaments for some family members, and I gave a Wordle (wordle.net) for a coworker. She loved it and said it was the best gift she ever received, and it was free! I know some friends who are using the wordle idea for men in their life and are writing all the adjectives of them on it around their name to make it very personal. Just an idea! Thanks for all your suggestions with the photography!

Wow. I love those. I am so impressed! I'm not even sure how to thread a bobbin. I'm going to try to learn soon, though.

First of all, HAPPY BIRTHDAY! Secondly, I would love to be able to make aprons too, but first I must master smushed peas, carrots, and sweet potatoes. :):) You did an excellent job...very impressive.
Wow Heidi...You did a really nice job! Now I know I can call both you and Gretchen when I want to get out my trusty old sewing machine. (which, by the way, was purchased for me by my step-mother 2 years ago and the box has never been opened) I dream of sewing beautiful gowns some day...guess I had better open the box!
Thanks, everyone, for your birthday wishes (which I forced you to offer me) and for the compliments on the aprons. I really enjoyed making them!.....although I always forget how LONG things take on a sewing machine - still much quicker than sewing by hand, I suppose.
Those are too cute! I'm knitting all of my Christmas gifts this year, with a few exceptions for people at work. Lots of work. I started in April and I'm STILL not finished!
